#11 Kentucky 7 Tennessee 24
Kentucky gets dominated in Knoxville yet again
Kentucky did not show up in Knoxville ready to play football. From the start of the game it was apparent that this is not the same Kentucky team that climbed the rankings all the way up to #11 in the polls. Tennessee played a decent football game but I believe the story is Kentucky’s lack of everything right now. I don’t know if it is simply exhaustion or if there is something larger at play but UK looks extremely beatable by everyone remaining on their schedule at the moment.
Without any major injuries on the defensive side of the ball they have somehow completely lost their identity. This was a defense that made you fight for every inch and now they are giving up Hail Mary like touchdown passes to end the first half. Maybe this is what happens when you depend on your defense to make up for a lack of offensive production. Allen is still a beast coming off the end but he is being held on nearly every play and can only be so effective by himself. I don’t know if they are simply tired this late in the season or if its something else but I no longer feel confident that this defense can carry UK through another game without a lot of help from the offense.
I still think Terry Wilson Jr. is the future at the quarterback position for the Cats. He needs help though. Benny Snell Jr. is getting shut down every game now and is not able to open up the defense like earlier in the season. 67 yards, 73 yards, and now 81 yards are not the kind of numbers that we got spoiled having Benny put up. It does not all fall on him though the Offensive line is simply not getting the push that they did earlier in the season. Benny is still 323 yards shy of the all time rushing record at UK with three games left including the bowl game. I sincerely hope for this young man that he is able to have at least one break out game to finish the season so that he can break the record. In order for that to happen UK’s receivers are going to need to learn to catch the ball. Drops happen and I understand that these receivers are all elite athletes but something has to change. There are too many dropped balls for this level of competition. It’s easy to point fingers at the quarterback when blaming this offense but whom is he supposed to trust when throwing the ball.
The rest of the season
Kentucky has two regular season games left, one against Middle Tennessee State, which will come into the game 7-3. Another one against the worst team Louisville has out on a football field in a long time. Kentucky has not guarantee wins especially with the way they are currently playing. There are two things that UK fans can still get excited about with this football team. Benny Snell Jr. can still beat the rushing record. Both Middle Tennessee and UL give up a ton of rushing yards per game. I would love to see Benny get a 200-yard rushing game before he jumps to the pros. Bobby Petrino has lost the fan base and it looks like he has lost the team too. If this is the case and I was Louisville I would wait and fire him the week before the UK game. I expect to face a much different and more fired up Louisville team then what is currently on the field. Capping of this season to get the eighth or ninth regular season win against their rival in Louisville would give this school a nice upswing after a couple weeks of bad sports plays from their two main programs.
